Cello concerto

with Jonatan Kraft

23. Jul 2023 KL. 14:00 - 15:00

Jonatan Kraft performs JS Bach's Cello Suite no 1, one of the composer's most beloved works. Here there is not only the well-known Prelude but also the equally beautiful Sarabande, and jovial dances. B. Britten's Cello Suite no 3 is based on Bach and folk music, and the cello's deep bass tones touch and create resonance. The concert ends with a few small pieces that the audience is sure to enjoy.

Biography:

The young, outstanding, cellist Jonatan Kraft has in a short time become a familiar face in Stavanger's music life. In 2020, as a 17-year-old, he moved from his home town of Örebro in Sweden to study at the Faculty of Performing Arts (UiS).

Jonatan is a very versatile musician, who has often been seen on stage as a singer, pianist, oboist and organist. This spring he made his debut as a conductor, when he performed Haydn's cello concerto in D major in a production at UiS. In addition, he is an active orchestral musician who plays in concert halls all over the Nordic region. Since the age of 19, he has been employed by the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra as a substitute.

For many years, Jonatan has particularly worked to bring out the large repertoire for solo cello, where the suites by Bach have a very special place. Today's concert is one in a series of many concerts he has presented, where Bach's music forms the starting point.
